Running out of summer holidays

Memorial Day & Independance Day are gone, Labor Day is only a few weeks away and I can already see myself planning way past it. Summer is nearly over and like always I’m wondering where it all went. I just checked and I’ve got about 3 weeks of paid time off on the books, so outside of my summer hospitalization, I’ve been sitting at my desk at work. I remember when I went canoeing on the Harpeth river a couple times a summer just on principle. My skin is pale and summer is almost over.

What usually dictates my summer schedule is the theatrical release calendar, but I haven’t seen many movies this summer either. I guess I’ve just been looking forward to the fall video game release calendar. I’ve already put aside $120 to purchase Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles: Rock Band.

I need to make another trip to Memphis and get in some of my daddy’s barbecue ribs before the last summer holiday ushers in the start of Autumn and I missed the whole thing. At least fall weather means camping and football.

Unseasonably Warm

It was a high of 64 degrees today and I’m taking full advantage. I’m going camping. Just as soon as the conversion I’m a part of is finished.

I don’t know why they insist on scheduling these for Fridays. Who likes to work on Friday night? Let alone every other Friday night until July. All I’m doing tonight is backing up the Point of Sale since the Pharmacist in Charge wants to own clearing out the dispensing workflow. Fine by me. In the last two months I’ve gotten plenty of practice backing up SQL databases there shouldn’t be any surprises. One hour from now, I’ll be on my way to a campsite with my sleeping bag, cook kit, and some Diet Mountain Dew to hang out around a campfire with some friends and pretend it’s the middle of summer.

I was tempted [for about 2 seconds] to attempt a campfire bacon weave, but my food poisoning earlier in the week kinda rules that out. I am going to make some red beans and rice though.

Schedule Adjustments

It’s proving more difficult to adjust to the type of schedule the Implementation team keeps. I’m used to a steady stream of work flowing in, somedays are worse than others, and you never can tell. The work was always out there and it would gravitate to you; you just had to let it happen.

Working Implementations is a brand new experience. I’m having to make it happen. I just received word today that most of my pharmacy implementations are being pushed back. Now that means that half of them will be on top of a bunch of EMR implementations in Q2. What I expected to be about 5-7 pharmacy conversions in February is now just one. It got pushed to this Friday; I had already made plans to go camping. The rest of February will consist of documentation and fixing non-urgent issues. Whatever milestones I reach or goals I accomplish this month, it will be because I made it happen. April – June will consist of more work than I can handle. This is going to take some getting used to.
